After Willie Flynt died in 1923 and until Lola and Bill Deese married in 1932, Al and Clayton worked the 80 acre farm. At about age 10, Al was working crops with a pair of horses named Clyde and Prince.
When Bill and Lola married in 1932, he had one mule for the farm work, that mule was named Pete.
Al started school at the Pigeon Roost School near the Wattensaw Post Office and Gin, to the east of present day church. Apparently he and cousin Wills Thomason rode a mule from home to that school more than once to meet girls.
