He died on 28 May 1876 in Grundy County, Tennessee.
His wife was Rebecca Dykes, who he married in ABT 1832. The place has not been found. Their ten known children were James S F (1835-1915), Jacob A. (1835-1909), Elijah F. (1837-1901), Louisa (1839-?), Samuel (1841-1912), Martin Jackson (1843-1915), Elizabeth Sarah (1848-1923), John G (1846-?), William (1848-?) and Rhoda Prudence (1850-1913).
