He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Martha Ann Hicks, who he married on 4 DEC 1864 in Northampton Cty, North Carolina. Their four known children were William F (1865-1868), Henry (1867-1871), Mary (1869-1869) and Jennettie Cornelia (1870-1897).
His second wife was Sarah Ann Cochran, who he married on 17 Nov 1872 in Arkansas. Their ten known children were James E (1874-1902), George Sylvester (1876-1961), Rosa Lieuvenia (1878-1926), Jesse Melton (1880-1972), Clarenda Nancy (1882-1968), John Wilson (1885-1915), Idella Daisy (1888-1912), Benjamin Atlas (1891-1923), Sara Kee (1886-1886) and Jenetta C (1871-?).
