He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Mary Louvenia Brister, who he married on 7 DEC 1840 in Northamption County, North Carolina. Their nine known children were Jesse Floyd (1842-1910), James Henry (1844->1887), John Emery (1846-1925), Elijah (1849-?), George Madison (1852-1926), H. Edmund (1856-1927), Robert Monroe (1858-?), Louvenia Elizabeth (1860-1938) and Wiley Atlas (1861-1936).

His second wife was Margaret Celestial Lassiter, who he married on 17 MAR 1875 in Lonoke County, Arkansas. Their four known children were Amos Lee (1876-1942), Jacob F (1878-?), Arron M (1879-?) and Mollie Temperance (1881-1967).
