Lydall was born on 15 Apr 1803 in Laurens District, South Carolina, the son of Lewis Washington Saxon and Sarah Allen.

He died on 19 Aug 1868 in Wetumpka, Autauga County, Alabama.

His wife was Mary Eliza Crenshaw, who he married on 27 DEC 1831 in Laurens District, South Carolina. Their four known children were Laura Charlotte (1832-<1920), Sarah Maria (1836-1906), Martha Caroline (c1835-?) and Mary H (c1840-1840).
