Wiley S. Redden was the son of William Redden of North Carolina. He married Mary Jane Level in 1867 in Missouri. They had 6 children together, with 3 dying in infancy: George W., Samuel G., Charles A., Mary E., Infant, and Infant. Wiley passed away at the age of 47 years old due to blood poisoning. This was from the wounds he had received as a soldier. He fought for the Union during the Civil War. He was wounded at the battle of Gettysburg and was also incarcerated in Andersonville prison during the war.
