Bayless Earl Cobb III, 87, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, in Fort Smith.
He was born Dec. 21, 1914, in Amarillo, Texas to Bayless Earl Cobb,ll and Sarah Bynum Cobb.
He graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1931, attended Virginia Military Institute and the University of Texas in Austin graduating with a degree in business administration in 1935, was an overseas agent for Lykes Brothers Steamship Line in China, Japan and the Philippines, owned and operated Southwestern Coal Company, Crown Construction Company and Cobb Properties, a land developer, a member of Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce, served on the board of directors of First National Bank, Sparks Memorial Hospital, Rosalee Tilles Home, Fort Smith Art Center, president of the Fort Smith Public Library and Hardscrabble Country Club.
Memorial service was 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church with private burial at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Madge; four sons, Bayless E. Cobb IV of San Diego, Alexander B.T. Cobb of Los Angeles, James L.S. Cobb of Raleigh, N.C., and Matthew B. Cobb of Fort Smith; and eight grandchildren.
