His wife was Mary A Winsett, who he married on 23 SEP 1833 in Athens, Limestone County, Alabama. Their eleven known children were William A (1834-1894), James A (1838-c1866), Ellen G. (1840-?), Sena Elizabeth (1842-1901), Martha J (1844-?), Emily (1846-1870), Louisa Cornelia (1847-?), Margarett Ann (1848-?), John Ben (1849-?), Wiley Lafate (1854-1926) and Mary Caroline (1855-1925).
